We have made it on to the Labrador Ferry, which can only operate for a few months when the strait is not iced up. This is not a joke. Here is a photo of what it looked like only a couple of months ago
Exactly.
So we are grateful the ice has finally left. If only the ferry would finally leave.
While we are up on deck watching the loading we realized there was a situation holding things up. It became clear that this:
was trying to get on thisand all we could see was this
The measuring tape came out. Rails were removed, The truck manoeuvered one way, then another. The ferry actually moved to another dock, which caused great panic for the drivers of the cars not yet on. The measuring tape came out again. And yet again.
After two hours of this saga (punctuality is obviously not a priority), they gave it up. the house simply would not fit on the boat.
Which means the wide load trucks had to come off, and the house caravan would have to return south, take the ferry to Nova Scotia, drive it up and through Quebec into Labrador the back way - the only other way - along gravel roads.
I shudder to think of the fuel charge.
